Nicola Neretti

PhD

Brown University

Title: Inference and Validation of Chromosomes' 3D Structure

Dr. Nicola Neretti is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, and Biochemistry, and in the Center for Computational Molecular Biology at Brown University. He received his PhD in Physics at Brown University, where he developed novel methods for wavelet design optimization. In his postdoctoral training, he developed signal processing techniques to study and model the auditory system. Dr. Neretti subsequently directed his research focus to computational biology and genomics thanks to an NIH Mentored Quantitative Research Development Award. His primary research interest is the study of genomic and epigenomic instability in aging and age-associated diseases. His research group has been among the first to characterize changes in chromosomes’ 3D structure and the activation of mobile genetic elements in cellular senescence and aging. Dr. Neretti’s laboratory current projects include: single cell transcriptomics in cellular senescence and aging; the study of transposable element activity; method development for chromosomes’ 3D structure inference combining genomics and microscopy data; and the use of cell-free DNA as a biomarker of aging and disease.

Title: Elucidating the role of nascent RNA at enhancers

Bio:
Andrew Field received his PhD in the lab of David Haussler at the University of California Santa Cruz and is currently a postdoctoral fellow under the direction of Karen Adelman at Harvard Medical School. Andrew is interested in transient cell states that underpin embryonic stem cell differentiation and development. In particular, he is investigating the role of enhancer commissioning and decommissioning in the transition from naive to primed stem cells. He is also probing the importance of specific enhancers and enhancer features at the cellular and mechanistic levels using a combination of bulk sequencing, single cell, and biochemical techniques.
